Jyotiba Phule was one of the prominent social reformers of the nineteenth century India. He led the movement against the prevailing caste-restrictions in India. He revolted against the domination of the Brahmins and for the rights of peasants and other low-caste fellow. Jyotiba Phule was believed to be the first Hindu to start an orphanage for the unfortunate children.

सावित्री बाई फूले

आधुनिक भारती सामाजिक क्रांति में महात्मा जयोतिराव फूले का उल्लेखनी योगदान रहा है, उसमें उनकी धर्मपत्नी सावित्री बाई का भी महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा है। सावित्री बाई का जन्म 3 जनवरी, 1831 को महाराष्ट्र के सतारा जिले के नामगांव में हुआ। उनके पिता खंडाजी नेवसे पाटील थे। तत्कालीन परम्परा के अनुसार उनका विवाह 9 वर्ष की बाल्य अवस्था में ज्योतिराव फूले से हो गया था।
